Sandler-style with-profits funds from Scottish Mutual, Scottish Equitable and Scottish Widows have been rated the most transparent in the industry by actuarial consultants AKG.

The group already rates with-profits for financial strength and future performance.

Those that scored a top rating of five for transparency include Scottish Mutual Smoothed Growth, Scottish Equitable New Generation With-Profits Cautious and Scottish Widows With-Profits Income.

Only one provider, Windsor Life, achieved a one rating, while six groups were given a score of two. Among those with a two were funds from MGM Assurance and NFU Mutual, as well as Royal London's Ordinary Long Term fund and Wesleyan Assurance's Ordinary Long Term Business portfolio.

Standard Life's Main With-Profits scored four out of five, as did Prudential Optimum Bonus, Clerical Medical With-Profits and Norwich Union's Stakeholder, With-Profit, With-Profit Income and With-Profit Annuity funds.

Offerings from Axa, Friends Provident, Legal & General and Liverpool Victoria all received a score of three out of five.
