AXA IM appoints John-Paul Temperley to Japanese equity team

AXA Investment Managers has hired John-Paul Temperley as a portfolio manager on the Japanese equity team of AXA IM Framlington Equities, effective from 6 April 2021.

Temperley will “closely support” Chisako Hardie, head of the Framlington Japan equity team, with research and portfolio management activities as well as providing research on Japanese equities to the firm’s global equity team.

He will report directly to Linden Thomson, co-head of global equities at Framlington.

Thomson said: “John-Paul is a welcome addition to the team, with his long experience in Japanese equities further reinforcing our offering. Japan offers many opportunities for stock pickers and John-Paul further reinforces our capabilities to discover many of its exciting investment themes.”

Temperley returns to asset management after a short break as a full-time father. Prior to this, he was vice president on the international sales desk at JP Morgan and worked on Japanese equity sales for three years.

He also spent 16 years at Martin Currie as a Japanese equity portfolio manager, working on a number of funds include the group’s Japan ARF, Daijiro and Japan Alpha strategies.
