George Loening founded Select Equity in January 1990 while still studying at Columbia University from where he graduated in 1992. With the exception of a part-time position as a junior analyst at Gabelli Asset Management, George is a self taught investor and is responsible for developing the company’s investment and research engines. From inception George operated independently for almost two years before launching a US equity small- and mid-cap strategy and is now also the lead portfolio manager for a number of long-only and long/short US strategies.
