Based in San Francisco in the US, Derek is responsible for the management of a number of sector portfolios, specialising in the healthcare sector. Derek began his investment career in 1993 as a fixed-income analyst with Franklin Templeton and was promoted to assistant portfolio manager in 1997. In 2000, he joined the firm’s equity department and was named co-manager of its equity-income portfolios. Before joining our company in 2005, Derek was working as a portfolio manager for Franklin Templeton’s health care fund from 2002 through 2005 — the final two years as lead manager. Derek earned a BSc degree in business administration with an emphasis in accounting and finance and a Master of Business Administration degree from the Haas School of Business at the University of California (Berkeley). He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA®) designation.
